Abella, Aguelo rule kiddie triathlon

KEVIN Jacob Abella and Katrina Nicole Aguelo captured the boys and girls 9-10 division titles Sunday in the 3rd Kiddie Triathlon held at the Ladislawa Country Club in Buhangin.

Abella won the boys category by clocking 14 minutes and 37 seconds. Akira Michiko Sam clocked 15:40 good for second place, while Francis Edgar Fuentispina registered 16:41 for third.

Aguelo, who broke the tape at 17:15, bested Amanda Kehl and Katrina Leuenberger who recorded 18:23 and 18:29, respectively in the girls category.

In the 11-12 category, Uno Xavier Evangelista beat Gian Karlo Sam and Ronalda Jumawan for the boys crown. Evangelista clocked 18:02 as against Gian's 18:33 and Jumawan's 18:47.

The girls title went to Anne Rene Castillo who overcame the stiff challenge posed by runner-up Ethil Mariz Pobre. Castillo timed 19:20 while Pobre finished at 19:21. Alexis Belen was at distant third with 20:32.

Gerard Caputol emerged champions in boys 13-15 while Julienne Angeli Zuņiga and Rachel Kehl were declared co-champions with identical 33:50 record.

Caputol sped past Kevin Joshua Abella and Moses Shoon Cam.

The other champions were Alyssa Paule Fuentes and Julio Miguel Mirto (under-eight) and Ishan Montenegro and Samantha Jane Cambronero (7-8).

Organizer Triathlon Association of Davao (Triad) president Marites del Rosario said the event was a very successful 44 participants fighting for honors. This year's edition had the highest turnout of entries so far."

Del Rosario said the proceeds of the race will go to the Kythe Foundation - the kids with cancer at the Davao Medical Center.

The Matina Town Square, Tristar Banana Group of Companies, Boondocks, NCCC Cares, Jollibee, RUSH Fitness Water, Holiday Spa, Coca Cola and Ladislawa Contry Club were among the sponsors of the competition organized in coordination with the Federation of Off-Road Cycling Enthusiasts (Force). (MLSA)
