BANANA production in Davao Region posted an upward trend during the first quarter of the year with seven percent increase in the production output, the provincial office of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) reported.
Davao Region's banana production during the first three months of the year is pegged at 642,608.84 metric tons, 6.76 percent higher than the same period last year, which was pegged at 601,924.63 metric tons.
Four out of the five provinces in the region contributed significant increases in banana production. Only Davao del Sur was noted to have slumped in the production by 0.90 percent.
Increase in production was noted in Davao del Norte, the top banana producer in the region with 13.30 percent increase, Davao Oriental with 5.14 percent increase, Compostela Valley province with 4.22 percent increase, and Davao City with 2.04 percent increase.
BAS report showed that Compostela Valley was identified as the second top banana producer since 2003, Davao del Sur on number three spot, followed by Davao City and Davao Oriental.
Davao del Norte produced a total of 272,290.09 metric tons of banana as of March this year, while Compostela Valley produced a total of 191,826.87 metric tons.
Davao del Sur, on the other hand, produced a total of 106,995.85 metric tons. Davao City and Davao Oriental had a total of 54,461.98 metric tons and 17,034.05 metric tons of banana produce, respectively.
