Wednesday, June 06, 2007 1st Cyber Expo to be held here By Ben O. Tesiorna
YOU gamers out there, prepare for the first ever cyber exposition to be held in Davao City that will feature the latest and hottest cyber games in the market and discover the best cyber gamers in town.
The 1st Davao Cyber Expo will not only hold a cyber game competition but feature as ell graphic animation and design competition, speed assembly competition, computer shows and exhibitions, computer technology forum and the 2007 cyber expo support group's exhibitions.
The event is organized by the e-Squared Events Organizing led by Kitsi Avila, son of City Councilor Leonardo R. Avila III.
The younger Avila said the cyber games alone will be participated in by about 200 players from the 16 internet café-members of their group.
They expect a total of 2,000 participants from all over Davao and Tagum City for the three-day event that will start from June 22 and ends on the 24th at the NCCC Mall's exhibition center.
Avila said this will be the biggest cyber games so far in the Philippines and it will be held here in Davao City. He said this is in line with their vision to make Davao as the leading cyber city in the country.
A cash prize of P25,000 awaits the winner of the cyber game competition.
Avila said after Davao, they will hold similar cyber game competitions in major cities like Cebu and Manila and later a national cyber game right here in Davao City.
He said the cyber gaming industry has a lot to offer especially to the young Dabawenyos who are into this hobby.
He said contrary to the common notion that computer games are nothing but a waste of time and money, cyber gaming industry could actually provide bright future for those who are into it.
Avila said the only ingredient lacking in the present scenario is the support from the government.
He cited the case of Korea where cyber gaming is a big in and a big money-making venture. Avila said Korea is now the world's leader in cyber gaming because of the support their government is giving to the industry.
He said talent-wise, Filipinos can match if not surpass the talents of Koreans when it comes to the cyber-gaming industry.
Avila said what is lacking in the Philippines is the availability of sufficient educational institutions that offer courses on information technology.
Avila appealed to the government, both local and national, to help them promote a productive cyber culture by showcasing the ingenuity of young people in cyber gaming by including them in major activities like the Kadayawan and Araw ng Davao festivities.
That way, he said, cyber gaming could become a sport that entails not only skills but discipline as well. This is the reason why, said Avila, they are only allowing 15 years old and above participants in the cyber games competition and at a specific time that would not be in conflict with their school schedules.
The event will also feature forums on Ladderized Education Program and Skill Assessment Certification to be conducted by Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda). There will also be forums on 3D animations, web animations, video editing, and special effects in video.
Sponsors will also be showcasing their wares for the participants and visitors to appreciate along with local bands playing for the duration of the event.
