THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), the organizer of the Recyclable Collection Event (RCE) 2007, said recycling brings benefit not only to the people collecting trash materials, but also to the environment.
DCCCII said through paper recycling, people can save up to 54 percent in energy use.
It also saves 17 seven-year-old trees and 7,000 gallons of water for each ton recycled.
Plastic recycling, on the other hand, saves petroleum and landfill space use.
It also saves up to 85 percent in energy use.
Aluminum recycling also gives advantages for it reduces energy usage and air pollution by up to 95 percent and saves bauxite ore.
It also reduces water pollution by up to 70 percent.
Meanwhile, car battery recycling prevents lead and battery electrolyte from polluting the environment, while computer recycling saves up to 95 percent in energy use and it also recovers up to 90 percent of usable materials.
People and the government also benefit from used motor oil recycling.
Used motor oil recycling saves as mush as 25 percent in costs as an alternative fuel.
It also recovers almost 90 percent usable materials and it lowers the importation of oil to as much as 75 percent.
DCCCII is urging people to bring recyclables to SM City carpark on June 30 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and redeem them for cash at special buying stations or donate the proceeds to charity.
