Saturday, June 16, 2007 Davao giant excited with coming draft
SIX-foot-nine Samigue Eman, who will join the PBA Rookie Draft on August 14, is set to practice with the national basketball team when it comes home after its stint in FIBA-Asia.
Eman, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said, "Pahinga muna ako ngayon pagkatapos balik workout ako next week. Makikisabay ako sa praktis ng Philippines' team pagbalik nila. Isang beses palang ako nakasali sa kanila. Out of the country kasi sila ngayon (I'll take a break then resume my workout next week. I will rejoin RP team's practice when they return to the country. I've joined them once before they left)."
The former University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats cager Eman, who is now with PBL's Henkel Sista, said he is really excited to be drafted.
He doesn't even mind ending up in the last round pick. "Kahit pang ilang round basta makuha, okay lang sa akin. Gusto ko lang talagang makapasok na sa PBA (It's fine with me if I'll be picked in the last round. I just want to get into the PBA)," he recently said.
Former Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knight Ryan Joseph Rizada was a second round pick in last year's rookie draft.
Rizada, who was a championship performer for the Far Eastern University in the UAAP and PBL Magnolia team, however, was placed in the reserved list of the Coca Cola Tigers.
Davao's Sunday Salvacion, who used to play with the Rizal Memorial Colleges, is now making waves in the Barangay Ginebra team. He is sometimes fielded as part of the squad's starting five. (MLSA)
