The decrease in the overall production output was brought about by the slumped in the production of the crop in all provinces in the region.

Davao City, which is the third top coffee producer next to Davao del Sur, recorded the significant decrease in the production with 15.75 percent.

The province produced a total of 780.57 metric tons of coffee during the period, lower than the figure in 2006 first quarter which is 926.53 metric tons.

Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Sur's coffee production decreased by 3.46 percent, 1.80 percent, and 1.95 percent, respectively.

Compostela Valley, BAS report said, was observed to have a 1.77 percent decrease in the production of the crop.

Bas identified Compostela Valley as the top producer of coffee since 2003. It only produced a total of 1,630.11 metric tons of coffee this year's first quarter.

Meanwhile, Davao del Sur had a total of 1,337.04 metric tons of coffee during the period, 461.18 metric tons for Davao Oriental, while 185.94 metric tons coffee produced was recorded in Davao del Norte. (JGRS)
