New Generoso Bridge I to be concrete: Duterte
By Grace L. Plata

DAVAO City will get a concrete bridge in place of the post-war Governor Generoso Bridge 1, which collapsed in April this year and not the steel bridge that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has emergency materials for.

This was confirmed Thursday night by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

"I was informed tonight by Bebot Marfori who took the cudgels of talking to the president regarding the bridge that a decision has been made and we will be given a concrete bridge instead of a steel one. The president herself texted Marfori to confirm," Duterte said.

Madeline "Bebot" Dizon-Marfori is the chief executive of FS Dizon Agricultural Company founded by her late father Don Francisco "Paco" Dizon. She is also one of the President's consultants on Mindanao concerns.

Duterte, however, added the construction of the concrete bridge would require a longer time frame than a steel bridge.

"The December deadline cannot be met. We need two to three months more para matapos ito kasi meron pang curing period," Duterte said.

The mayor asked the public to be patient especially now that help is on the way.
