Ateneo-High Class '57 to hold grand golden reunion

AFTER graduation from high school 50 years ago, the all boys batch '57 will once more gather in a grand celebration dubbed, "The Barbarians of '57: One more time."

The golden jubilee is scheduled for August 14-16, 2007, and in Davao City coinciding with the annual Ateneo fiesta and Kadayawan 2007. Activities to rekindle the old camaraderie have been lined up. Included in the planned event is of course, a visit to the old Matina campus, now completely new and modern.

A nostalgic celebration of the Holy Mass on August 15, Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will also be held at the High School chapel. Dinners and trips to various Davao City tourist destinations are also planned including dining at the Marco Polo Hotel, Eden Nature Park and Felis Beach Resort.

There will also a night out for the boys at the Square Circle and a tour of Kadayawan and Davao by night. Many alumni from out of Davao and abroad are in for a real treat as they see the many changes and developments that both their alma mater and home city have undergone.

To commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime gathering, a special book entitled, "A Book of Remembrance" will be published by the core group under the auspices of the Research and Publication Office (RPO) of the Ateneo de Davao University.

This book will contain the group's memories of their last year in high school and pictures of the old Ateneo in Matina and old Davao.

Now in full gear, the activities are being handled by the classmates who are living in Davao namely Abdul "Nonoy" Aquino, Romeo "Romy" Du, Charlie Go, Raoul Hilario, Fabian "Butch" Ibarreta, Ramon Jamora, Renato "Pewee" Sarenas, Anthony "Taras" Sasin, and Alberto "Ams" Soriano.

All members of The Barbarians of Class '57, like Ed Canlas, James Cam, Manuel Mañalac, Fred Roque, Mike Escoto, Joe Ang Rabanes, Manuel Alonzo, Honorato Banaag, Henry Altonaga, Danny Lorredo, Vic Luna, Antero Rivera, Jose Ventosa and other who are mostly abroad have been enjoined to come and be one with the class, one more time.

The secretariat, headed by Romy Du, can be reached at 0917-701-41-65 or Anne at 221-66-56 or 0927-533-1992.

Everyone is also invited to view the group's website: www.barbarians.bravehost.com.
