Sunday, July 01, 2007 Convoy captures Lanemaster title
BRITISH national Thomas Convoy emerged champion in the first Lanemaster final at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Friday night.
Convoy, who grabbed a twice-to-beat advantage in the step-the-ladder championship, beat Danny Usman for the title and the cash prize of P5,000 while the latter settled for P3,000.
Manny Nierra placed third with P2,000. The top three winners also received trophies for their feats in the meet organized by the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) under its president Billy Magdale.
They made it to the qualifying round along with seven other contenders after registering the best scores in 15 games during the eliminations played every Tuesday for the entire month.
But in the next edition of the bowlfest, assistant tournament director Lino Francisco said the top 10 players with the best records after 24 games will enter the finals.
He said the next edition of the Lanemaster event, which will open Tuesday, will also be played every Saturday.
"The Lanemaster will be held twice a week starting July 3. In our weekly tournaments every Saturday, the players will play two more games on top of the four games usually played during the regular series," he added in a statement.
Ian Ancheta, Art Galendez, Joshua Disuacido, Magdale, Ron Martin, Vic Te and lawyer Jojo Flores also competed in the finals. (MLSA)
