Monday, July 02, 2007 Davao rubber production down By Joy Romares-Sevilla
DAVAO Region produced a total of 2,791.92 metric tons of rubber during the first quarter of the year.
Such figure, according to the provincial office of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (Bas), is 5.50 percent lower than the same period last year or in 2006.
The decrease in the production of rubber in Davao City, Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur contributed to the negative production output of rubber during the period, BAS reported.
BAS report showed only Compostela Valley posted a positive growth in the production with 1,341.92 metric tons of rubber, higher by 1.57 percent compared to 1,321.20 metric tons the province had produced in the same period last year.
Bas said only four provinces in the region have been producing rubber since 2003. The number excludes Davao Oriental.
Davao del Sur posted a decrease in the production with 12.50 percent, Davao del Norte with 10.78 percent, followed by Davao City with 10.38 percent.
Davao del Norte, which is identified as the second rubber producer next to Compostela Valley, only produced total of 701.65 metric tons in the first quarter of the year.
Davao del Sur, on the other hand, produced 434.94 metric tons of rubber, while Davao City had 313.41 metric tons during the period.
