Police now has 47 new bomb technicians

FORTY-seven new bomb technicians will be deployed all over the region within this week making up the Regional Explosive Ordnance Division.

Police Regional Office Chief Andres Caro said this Wednesday as he announced that the 47 had just graduated from their special ordnance course and will augment the region's number of bomb technicians.

"Dati, we only had eight and they were based here in the city kaya kung merong threats or explosions, they would have to travel to the area which would take time. Now, as we already have 55, they will be distributed to the provinces in the region so that each province will have an organic bomb unit," Caro said.

Davao City will be having an in-house team of seven while the
provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley will have a five-man unit each.

Caro said these men are trained to identify and defuse explosives.

"They cannot be called experts but they are qualified and knowledgeable enough," Caro said.

Caro, however, said 55 is still a small number to cover a region as big as Southern Mindanao but it is definitely better than only having eight.

"But we will continue to enhance our capability so that in the future we will have one unit for each municipality in the region." Caro said. (GLP)
