Tuesday, July 10, 2007 Councilor agrees: NGOs shouldn't meddle with anti-crime drive By Grace L. Plata
CONCERNED non-government organizations should instead use their resources to put up programs aimed at strengthening the family and community relations instead of meddling with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's campaign against criminality.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang reacted in an interview Monday.
"Their apprehensions that law enforcers in the city intend to hurt these people, especially minors, is absurd," Dayanghirang said.
Dayanghirang also calls for parents to be responsible in disciplining their children so that cases of children in conflict with the law will be minimized if not avoided completely.
"I agree with the mayor that this is the impact of the Juvenile Justice Law," Dayanghirang said.
As chair of the 15th council's committee on peace and order, Dayanghirang is set to write Senator Francis Pangilinan with a petition to fine-tune the Juvenile Justice law.
"Ito after I have conducted a committee hearing in order to come up with recommendations on how to fine tune the law," Dayanghirang said.
