Wednesday, July 11, 2007 Chamber seeks passage of zoning ordinance By Carlo P. Mallo
THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) is pushing for the passage of a zoning ordinance for Davao City.
Contrary to the "spot zoning" the city has right now, a more thorough and effective zoning of the entire city may be what is needed for more investments to pour in.
According to DCCCII trustee, Enrique Diola, an implementation of a comprehensive would provide for the efficient utilization of the land resources of the city.
"Investments cannot pour in because of the absence of a proper zoning in the city," Diola said Monday.
Apart from pushing for the zoning of the city, DCCCII is also pushing for the passage of a resolution for the establishment of a Food Terminal for Southern Mindanao in Davao City.
Diola said it is necessary that a food terminal be established for the realization of Mindanao as the food basket of the country.
The chamber is also asking the City Council to draft a beautification program for the city that would actively involve the private sector.
Another program that the chamber is pushing is for the "greening" of the city in order to help address the rise of pollution and the adverse effects of global warming.
The said concerns will further be discussed by the chamber in its 7th Davao City Business Conference on July 20th. The conference is aimed in order for the chamber and its members to address the major concerns and issues that they face.
