Wednesday, July 11, 2007 Avisado, Quitain get council's concurrence By Grace L. Plata
THE Davao City Council on Tuesday concurred with the re-appointment of City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado and City Legal Officer J. Melchor V. Quitain.
The resolution proposed by Councilor Peter T. Laviña, chair of the committee on appointments and government reorganization, states that the Office of the City Mayor forwards the appointment to the Office of the Vice-Mayor for the concurrence of the City Council.
There was no opposition to the proposal, thus Avisado and Quitain, whose terms are co-terminus with the mayor's, have been officially reappointed.
Both were present during the passage of the resolution for the reappointments, thus were requested to say a few words for the council and the public's benefit.
Avisado said he is thankful for a renewed opportunity to serve the city.
"With support and cooperation, we will push forward to prosperity," Avisado said.
Avisado added that he has great respect and admiration for Quitain who will also once again serve with him.
Quitain thanked the council for the vote of confidence and ended his very short speech by quoting his father.
"I am always reminded by my father's words. He said that in government service this should be the words to live by - I have no friends to save, no enemies to harm," Quitain said.
Avisado and Quitain have been reported to be at odds lately due to the proposed re-engineering of the local government structure, which Quitain has opposed.
