MILF wishes Misuari well on Jeddah trip

THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) wishes all the best for Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chair Nur Misuari who is set to travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the tripartite peace talks with the Philippine government and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) on July 17.

In their official website luwaran.com, MILF information deputy chair Khaled Musa said it is high time the Philippine government, OIC, and the MNLF to come out with a definitive stance on the real status of the 1996 peace pact between the government and the MNLF.

"We wish him all the best," Musa said.

The MILF leader said it's time to put an end to the lingering controversy whether or not the 1996 peace accord was indeed implemented in full or not.

Musa said their group however rejects the 1996 peace accord as the solution to the Bangsamoro problem.

A Makati court handling the rebellion case of Misuari, former governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm), granted on Monday his request to leave detention and attend the tripartite peace talks with his spiritual adviser in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Co-accused Ustadz Abu Haris Usman was also allowed by the court to leave detention and attend the meeting in Saudi Arabia along with Misuari.

The court however also imposed several conditions on Misuari that must be “strictly observed.”

Among the conditions were: they would leave their detention on July 16; the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force shall provide the security during the entire travel as determined by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process; the travel shall be solely for attending the tripartite meeting and not for any political purpose; Misuari shall immediately return to his place of detention as soon as they arrived from the tripartite meeting on July 21.

The court allowed Misuari to perform the “Umra” at the Holy Mosque in the Holy Cities of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Medinah as long as it is done within the scheduled dates and prior to his return to the country.

The court also ordered the prosecution and the defense to submit a sovereign guaranty from the Saudi government before leaving the country.

The tripartite meeting is set on July 17 to 19. (BOT)
