Wednesday, July 11, 2007 Ali signs up with Salud By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
A FORMER top amateur boxer from Davao City in the person of Ali Brashary Cali finally turned professional and has a well-known Cebu boxing benefactor as his promoter.
The 16-year-old Ali signed up with Rex Wakee Salud of Cebu Tuesday, just two days after arriving in Cebu from Davao.
Ron Doran, Ali's American manager from Florida, announced this development to Davao sportswriters Tuesday after his boxer officially signed in with Salud.
Another top amateur boxer from General Santos City, 17-year-old Saddam Barambangan, also signed in with Salud.
Doran said Mike Revilla, a former trainer of Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao, was also hired as trainer of the two pugs.
Doran, together with Revilla and another trainer Efren Desierto, had accompanied the two boxers from Davao to Cebu last Sunday to train at the ALA Gym.
Salud apparently showed keen interest in the two young pugs and immediately signed them in.
Doran did not gibe details of the contract, but the Davao ang GenSan boxers are expected to undergo rigid training in preparation for their debut fights in the professional ranks.
