FORMER University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats standout Peter June Simon is a candidate for two awards in the upcoming PBA Annual Awards Night.
The Purefoods mainstay Simon, who also held an MVP title during his PBL years and Discovery of the Year in the now defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), made it to the lists of the Most Improved Player and Sportsmanship Award.
Talk `N Text Mac Cardona, who is a candidate for the MVP honors of the 32nd PBA season, also joined Simon in the Most Improved Player's list along with Red Bull's Carlo Sharma, Sonny Thoss of Alaska and Ginebra's Ronald Tubid.
Simon will contest the Sportsmanship Award with Purefoods teammate James Yap, Cyrus Baguio, Larry Fonacier, Nelbert Omolon, Wilie Miller, Thoss and Gary David.
Alaska's Miller leads five other players in the most coveted MVP award in the league.
Joining the cast are Yap, Cardona, Sta. Lucia's Kelly Williams and Air 21 cagers Arwind Santos and David.
The All-Defensive Team has 27 players on its list with veterans Johnny Abarrientos, Jeffrey Cariaso, Enrico Villanueva and Junthy Valenzuela, as among the heavy favorites. (MLSA)
