DCWD's gender advocates meet

FOR the first time, the three pillars of gender and development program of Davao City Water District met during the Womynet Group management committee meeting hosted by the water utility on July 10, 2007, at DCWD Board Conference Room.

Former DCWD board vice-chair Patria G. Montemayor headed the committee on Community Development and Environmental Concerns until she retired last December 31, 2006. One of her significant contributions was the production of a book on compiled laws on women and children which was released in January 2005.

Also a previous member of the board is lawyer Adoracion Cruz-Avisado. She represented the Education sector but had played a vital role in mainstreaming the gender and development program.

To date, she is DCWD's constant speaker on gender related trainings conducted by the DCWD through the Community Relations and External Affairs-Community Relations Unit.

Past directors Montemayor and Avisado were founders of Womynet Group during their stints at DCWD. The group was instrumental in implementing the GAD in the water utility.

The present lady member of the board is Maria Luisa L. Jacinto representing the women sector.

Jacinto has been elected secretary and chair of the DCWD Board Committees on Finance and Community Development and Environmental Concerns. She is also a member of the Womynet management committee representing DCWD together with DCWD community relations officer Ellanena J. Gabuya.

The DCWD has been implementing the GAD since 1996. This program has been integrated in its corporate plans.

DCWD community is thankful to have been served by three women who are all gender advocates. Their program shaped and genderized the DCWD community.
