Friday, July 20, 2007 Davao Doc adopts 2 public schools
DAVAO Doctors College (DDC), through the Department of Education's Adopt-a-School Program, extended assistance to Langub Elementary School in Ma-a and Baliok Elementary School in Talomo, both in Davao City.
The launching ceremonies held at the beneficiary schools last June 26 and 27, respectively, formally sealed DDC's commitment to help Langub's and Baliok's pupils to have better access to quality education and officially paved the realization of addressing the schools' needs.
Both schools received several packages of support from DDC, such as the Early Reading Skills Package, the Infrastructure Package, and the Teacher Training Package. These include the provision of books and other instructional materials, arm chairs, and enhancement seminars and trainings for the school teachers.
The Adopt-a-School Program, also known as Republic Act 8525, gives corporate groups, non-government organizations, and civil society groups an opportunity to take part in uplifting the quality of Philippine education.
The program believes that solving the education crisis, particularly the enhancement of the public education system, should not be left to the Department of Education alone because the government's limited resources are no match against the demands of the burgeoning student population.
Like DDC, private entities can team up with DepEd and become active partners by providing much needed assistance on a short-term or long-term basis to support the upgrading and modernization of public elementary and high schools.
