Wednesday, July 25, 2007 Cooperate in census, Dabawenyos urged By Joy Romares-Sevilla
THE chair of the Davao Regional Census Coordinating Board (RCCB)-Southern Mindanao is urging the people in the Davao Region to get involved in the 2007 Population Census that will be conducted on August 1, 2007.
RCCB chair Nicasio Angelo Agustin, who is also the director of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda)-Southern Mindanao, said it is important to be counted in the 2007 census since it will affect the government's implementation of its plan not only for the region, but also for the country.
"It is a very important undertaking of the government that will affect the formulation of plans and implementation of programs in the country," Agustin said.
Agustin revealed that Davao Regional Census Coordinating Board has met recently to discuss preparations for the conduct of the census of population that will be undertaken in 25 enumeration days from August 1 to 29.
"The Board was created to assist the National Statistics Office (NSO) which spearheads the conduct of the 2007 Popcen (2007 Census of Population)," Agustin said.
He added that the RCCB will provide assistance to the requirement of Popcen that will include the provision of facilities for the conduct of trainings for census personnel and vehicles to transport and retrieve census materials in the different parts of the region.
Agustin also pledged to campaign for broad public support to the 2007 Popcen.
"RCCB will coordinate with the city and municipal census coordinating boards (CCB) in the region in providing its assistance to the 2007 Popcen.
It was learned that August has been declared as the National Census Month this year. The 2007 Popcen, on the other hand, is the 12th to be undertaken in the country since 1903.
