Laviña said schools in the city often sell snacks commonly known as "junk food" that contributes to poor health and malnutrition of children, thus the need to promote a snack food that is healthy and can also be well-liked by children.

The campaign to promote banana chips as an alternative snack food is also under the "One Town-Ten Products" campaign of the city that aims to promote one local product for each of the 10 political districts.

These products will be branded with the "Proudly Davao-made" logo meaning the product has passed the standards set by within the Davao Branding System Ordinance passed by the 14th council in June this year.
