Wednesday, July 25, 2007 Dads approve banana chips as alternative snack food By Grace L. Plata
A RESOLUTION to promote banana chips as alternative snack foods in Davao City schools was approved Tuesday by the City Council.
Proposed by Councilor Peter Laviña, chair of the committee on commerce, trade and industry, the resolution does not only aim to promote a local product but promotes healthy diet as well.
Laviña said schools in the city often sell snacks commonly known as "junk food" that contributes to poor health and malnutrition of children, thus the need to promote a snack food that is healthy and can also be well-liked by children.
The campaign to promote banana chips as an alternative snack food is also under the "One Town-Ten Products" campaign of the city that aims to promote one local product for each of the 10 political districts.
These products will be branded with the "Proudly Davao-made" logo meaning the product has passed the standards set by within the Davao Branding System Ordinance passed by the 14th council in June this year.
