Wednesday, July 25, 2007 Skills training available soon for differently-abled By Grace L. Plata
SKILLS training for differently-abled persons will be made available soon as the City Council approved Tuesday a resolution requesting the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to create and maintain a program suited for the needs and abilities of the differently-abled.
Proposed by Councilor Tomas Monteverde IV, the resolution seeks to help differently-abled persons become more productive and financially independent as they will be equipped with skills needed for special jobs.
Monteverde said courses for the differently-abled have been held by Tesda in the past like that of cellphone repair but it has only benefited a small number of differently-abled. Thus, a move for the creation of a sustainable long-term program made up of different skills courses is needed.
Tesda's skills trainings are recognized by employers worldwide due to high standards.
Technical-vocational and skills course graduates will need to pass a competency test in order to be awarded the certificate of competency which is a document required and recognized by employers local and international as proof of competence.
