Full traffic light system won't operate till 2008
By Grace L. Plata

THE synchronized traffic signalization system would not be fully implemented until March next year, said Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Tuesday.

Duterte said the comprehensive traffic scheme will not be implemented as planned not until the Gov. Generoso Bridge I is rebuilt.

The synchronized traffic signalization system is one of the mayor's priority projects during his last term.

Its implementation, however, it not yet complete due to factors like that of the collapse of Gov. Generoso Bridge 1, which is the main route of southbound vehicles.

As it is synchronized, one missing piece in the whole system, will affect the whole system.

Duterte, however, said the installation of more traffic lights will go on which will reach as far as the Davao Medical Center junction in Bajada so that all 39 posts with traffic lights will be completed by the time the bridge is rebuilt.

On the other hand, Duterte says Traffic Management Center Chief Celso Gempesaw will stay in his post and will not be appointed as City Engineer as some talks go.

"He is doing a great job in TMC (Traffic Management Center) that is why I want him to stay there," Duterte said.

Duterte added that if Gempesaw is taken from his current post, the traffic group's effectivity and competence may suffer.
