P342.6-million supplemental budget passes 1st reading

THE first supplemental budget proposal for 2007 (SB 1) amounting to P342.6 million passed first reading during Tuesday's City Council session.

The biggest single allocation is for the mayor's peace and order fund amounting to P180 million while P25.7 million will go to the salary increase of city employees.

Proposed under suspended rules, Floor Leader Bonifacio Militar read the letter of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for the council to consider the proposal in the soonest possible time.

Other major allocations were for roads and bridges at P30 million, electricity at P12 million and environmental services at P11.6 million.

Allocation for the Regional Peace and Order Council Fund is set at to P5,439,000, Barangay Enhancement Fund amounts to P4,368,000 and the People's Law Enforcement Body funding is set as P3,506,000.

Funding for SB 1 will be sourced from the city's tax collection as well as from the internal revenue allotment from the national government.

SB 1 for 2007 was referred to the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means and Appropriations chaired by Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz with the first committee hearing set on June 30.
