Monday, July 30, 2007 Cop accused in violence v. women lawsuit By Rhodamae M. Hernandez
* Police officer has just been acquitted of charges filed by his former girlfriend
* This time it's his wife who is suing him
HE GOT a reprieve when the City Prosecutor's Office dismissed the criminal charges file against him by his former girlfriend who accused him of slapping and threatening her.
Fresh new charges were filed against him recently, however, by his wife for violation of the law on violence against women and children. His wife is also a police officer.
In her affidavit, Erlinda (not her real name) said even in the early days of their marriage, Roberto (also not his real name) has had affairs with other women. He even begot a child with another policewoman, she said.
Because of his infidelity, they agreed to split up and divide their conjugal properties.
However, as they were about to sign the documents for their separation and properties, Roberto berated and threatened her, even brandishing his gun in front of her inside the police office where she works.
She got a reprieve when she was assigned in the national headquarters, she said.
Roberto then tried to patch things up with her, promising to reform. She only learned later on that even while Roberto was making promises, he kept on with his illicit affair with his mistress.
She said she even saw a picture of her husband with his paramour in wedding attire. When she confronted her husband about his, he got angry instead.
On the afternoon of December 24, 2005, while in the house of her brothers-in-law, the mistress barged in and tried to drag her husband out.
When she tried to intervene, the mistress had the gall to slap her, although she was able to parry the attack.
On January 12, 2006, she went to the apartment being rented by her husband for her mistress, hoping to still fix their marriage, but her husband insulted her instead.
When she was about to call the police, her husband pulled out his gun, tucked this in his waist, and left.
On March 6, 2006, she said found a CD containing a video recording of her husband and his mistress having sex. She then stopped communicating with her husband who even refused to give money for the party of their adopted child telling her they don't deserve it.
On April 5, 2006, her husband admitted in an interview he was indeed the one in the video.
She added that one month after, on in May 2006, her husband destroyed the lock of her quarters and took her jewelry amounting to more or less P120,000 with her cellular phone and cards.
She said what he have done have endangered the future of their child, who they agreed to adopt, support, and love but instead humiliated and deprived.
