Friday, August 03, 2007 City vows to raise P5 million for Kadayawan By Grace L. Plata
CITY Treasurer's Office chief Rodrigo Riola on Thursday assured the P5 million budget needed for the holding of the Kadayawan Festival will be raised in time.
"We will not propose a budget we cannot cope with," Riola said, adding the projections for the budget are based on the proposal from the participants.
"Events managed by the Department of Education as well as the tribal celebrations are subsidized by the city," he said.
The city has initially put up P700,000 for Kadayawan while Kadayawan co-chair for the private sector, Abdullah Aquino, donated P100,000.
Riola said the country's two leading telecommunication companies have committed to donate P1.5 million each, totalling the fund to P3.8 million.
The city has to raise only P1.2 million.
"Marami pang nagdating na sponsors ngayon kaya (more sponsors will come, so) we are sure we will be able to reach the target," Riola said.
He said this year's budget is lesser than that in 2006 because they are confident that the city does not have to spend more to make the Kadayawan Festival a success.
