Saturday, August 04, 2007 Davao-CDO econ corridor will spur regional development By Carlo P. Mallo
THE creation of a Davao-Cagayan de Oro economic corridor will be most helpful to spur economic growth. But this can only be maximized if more infrastructures are in place.
A railroad network, tunnels, and more lanes in the road are some of the infrastructure that Manuel Jamoner, Infrastructure Development Officer of the USAid-funded Growth for Equity Mindanao, said in a recent interview.
The creation of a economic corridor would allow for a faster and more efficient traffic of goods in the area to the transshipment hubs.
The good performance of the port of Davao and the promising infrastructure development in the newly created Mindanao Container Terminal in Misamis Oriental has made the two the most competent transshipment hubs in Mindanao.
Jamoner said the desire of each local government unit to have a port of their own and to outdo the other will not be helpful to the development of the economy.
