Only those from city can join Indak-indak
By Grace L. Plata

THE Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan competition will be exclusive to Davao City participants -- one of the many changes in the Kadayawan Festival celebration this year.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Unlike in the past when groups from neighboring cities and provinces have been allowed to join, the Kadayawan Festival committee, now under the supervision of the City Government, opted to limit the contest to city schools. The contest is managed by the Department of Education District Schools Division.

City Treasurer Rodrigo Riola, who is directly in charge of the Kadayawan events, said in last Thursday's edition of I-Speak that the committee made this move to ensure that the celebration truly bears the city's culture and spirit.

This year, too, the prizes for the competition are smaller. This because the projected budget of the whole celebration is only set at P5 million - smaller than the budget for the past celebrations.

First prize winner will get P50,000, second prize - P30,000 and third prize - P20,000.

Riola said like the Indak-Indak, prizes for the Floral Float Parade is also lesser. Still, he said, many companies have already signified their intention to join.
