Free zone days on Aug. 18-19
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Traffic Management Command (TMC) has declared August 18-19 as "free zone days" for public utility jeepneys in the downtown area.

A lot of streets downtown will be closed on August 18 and 19 to accommodate highlight activities that include the Indak-indak and the floral float parade.

Updates on the Kadayawan Festival 2007

In the KBP forum Monday, TMC Chief Celso Gempesaw said the downtown area will be considered a free zone. However, he added that the free zone is limited to areas affected by the festivities.

"They would still have to follow their routes, but when they arrive in the city area, they would have to find their own way through," Gempesaw added.

Gempesaw asserted that the drivers would still have to follow all other rules as members of the Traffic Management Command would still be deployed and could still issue an arrest.

The Kadayawan festivities will run from August 12 to 19. But unlike previous celebrations of the festival, the city government has disallowed street parties and the traditional "Kaan Dawet."
