New PTA park needs a name
By Ben O. Tesiorna

IF YOU have the knack on naming things, then the City Government of Davao needs you badly.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is asking anybody to submit to his office possible names for the newly-constructed theme park –- the old location of the PTA Park.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The new park is presently called simply as "The Park," but Mayor Duterte said he wants a more suitable name for the multi-million theme park that will surely become the next landmark in the city.

Some were suggesting naming the park after Duterte or his late father, Governor Vicente Duterte, but the city mayor is not keen on allowing such, saying it does not sit well with him.

He said he would rather have it named after something that represents Davao City and not after a politician. Also, he said, naming parks and other government facilities after a living person is not allowed by law.

"Sunod na lang pagpatay na ko (You do that when I'm already dead)," Duterte said.

It was not clear though if the City Government will be giving out reward for anyone who would suggest the right name for the park.
