Former education official to be city's consultant
By Grace L. Plata

FORMER Department of Education (DepEd) undersecretary Juan Miguel Luz will soon be Davao City's consultant on education concerns.

According to Councilor Ma. Belen Sunga-Acosta, member of the Local School Board, she has already conferred with Luz on the matter in her recent trip to Manila.

Luz is favorably endorsed by the Local School Board thus Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has already sent a letter to Luz inviting him to be a consultant of the school board.

"Although he is not with DepEd anymore, his advocacy remains strong and committed to the betterment of our public education system, in particular, and the welfare of our youth in general," Acosta said of Luz in her privilege speech Tuesday.

"I am also happy to report, that Juan Miguel Luz has manifested that he is inclined to accept the invitation of Mayor Duterte to be a consultant of the Davao City School Board. On a personal note, perhaps, as fate would have it, DedEd's loss might certainly be Davao City's gain, considering the professional background and outstanding public service record of Mr. Luz," Acosta added.

Luz currently sits as president of International Institute of Rural Reconstruction, an international NGO focused on developmental programs.
