Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Japan-based company to set up demo farm By Joy Romares-Sevilla
A GROUP of Japanese nationals will be arriving in Davao City to collaborate with the regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) for the setting up of a techno demo farm that will organically produce feeds for livestock.
Dr. Rafael Mercado, chief of the Livestock Division of the regional office of the DA, said the setting up of a techno demo farm that will produce hog foods organically will help promote safe meat for the region.
"This initiative will be done by the Perfect Product Laboratory, a Japanese-owned company, in collaboration with the DA and the Usep," Mercado said, adding that the techno demo farm will be set up inside the Usep campus.
Mercado said the Japanese businessmen will arrive in Davao City on August 15 and are scheduled to leave the city on August 20.
"Dapat nating pangalagaan hindi lang ang mga hayop, pati na rin ang pagkain nila," he said. (We should not only take care of the livestock, we should see to it that their food is safe.)
