Tuesday, August 14, 2007 UP prexy leads investiture for UPMin chancellor
PRESIDENT Emerlinda R. Roman, members of the Board of Regents, vice-presidents, chancellors, and other officials of the University of the Philippines System flew to Davao City to join the heads of other colleges and universities in Mindanao for the Investiture of the 3rd Chancellor of UP in Mindanao, Dr. Gilda Carballo Rivero, held at the Grand Regal Hotel on July 30, 2007.
Fr. Antonio Samson S.J., president of Ateneo de Davao University; Dr. Rizalina Pangan, president of Davao Doctors College; Dr. Hernane Carillo, VP-academic affairs of Holy Cross of Davao; Amelia Bonifacio, vice president of Philippine Women's College; Dr. Rosita Fundador, director of Philippine Science High School; Dr. Rosemarie Josue of Mindanao State University-Maguindanao joined Regent Ponciano Rivera Jr., faculty regent Lourdes Barcenas, chancellors of other UP constituent universities: Dr. Sergio S. Cao (Diliman), Dr. Luis Rey I. Velasco (Los Baños), Dr. Grace J. Alfonso (Open University), Dr. Priscilla Macansantos (Baguio), former UP president Francisco Nemenzo, vice-presidents: Dr. Arlene A. Samaniego (VP-Administration), Dr. Maria Concepcion Alfiler (VP-Planning and Finance), Dr. Lourdes Abadingo (Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents) and officials from UP Baguio, UP Open University, UP in the Visayas, UP-Manila, UP Los Baños, and UP-Diliman in the processional that started at 8 a.m.
The processional was led by UP-Mindanao Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Emma Ruth V. Bayogan.
She was followed by faculty members of the College of Science and Mathematics led by Dean Antonio Obsioma, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences led by Dean Antonio Moran, and the School of Management led by OIC-dean Sylvia Concepcion, the concurrent vice-chancellor for administration.
During the brief program, former regent and professor of History, Dr. Oscar Alfonso, gave a message.
Chancellor Rivero was introduced by her good friend, UP-Diliman Chancellor Sergio "Gerry" S. Cao.
Musical performances were rendered by the UPMin Dance Ensemble, the UPMin Koro Kantahanay and Dean of the College of Music, Dr. Ramon Maria Acoymo.
Rivero, a biologist from UP Diliman, is the first woman to take the post. She will serve a three-year term as chancellor. Video coverage of the investiture may be viewed at www.upmin.edu.ph.
