Davao bowlers display might

HOST Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) bagged all five titles at the close of the 2nd Kadayawan Tenpin Bowling Open Tournament at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Sunday night.

The Datba 2 team earlier won the team event and P12,000 cash prize while runner-up Datba 1 took P6,000 and FCAAF of Manila received P4,000 as third placer.

Datba 2 player Alan Edulan bagged the P50,000 masters champion's purse, Datba 10's doubles team of Vic Te and Lino Francisco took the P6,000 doubles top prize, Datba 1 bet Ian Ancheta won the P6,000 all events first prize, and youth player Fritz Barros took home P6,000 for topping the singles event.

Datba president Billy Magdale said the Davao teams had the edge because of their familiarity with the lanes.

"We had the homecourt advantage so to speak. Our rivals had a hard time adjusting to the lanes," Magdale said.

Edulan gained the twice-to-beat advantage after topping the eight-game series with a total of 1,807 pinfalls.

He lost the first game to challenger Jerry Lim of FCAAF but the Dabawenyo won the sudden death match of their masters' finals.

Lim settled for the P20,000 runner-up prize while third placer lawyer Joseph Flores got P10,000 and P5,000 went to fourth placer Wilbert Yu of BTA Cebu.

Ian Ancheta placed fifth with P3,000 as the next three placers--Mac Macalsa, Benson Co of Vikings Manila, and Raoul Miranda of the RP Team--did not go home empty-handed with P2,000 each.

Philippine Bowling Congress executive vice president Jaime Dychauco awarded the prizes to the winners with Magdale and national coach Gene Tonolete. Tonolete also conducted a tenpin bowling clinic after the awarding rites.
