Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Didal praises fellow Davao pool master; Kiamco fails
SEEDED player Leonardo "Dodong Panacan" Didal was all praise for Davao City qualifier Gandy Valle while Cebu City's Warren Kiamco didn't know what hit him after having been eliminated in the San Miguel Philippine 9-Ball Open 2007 Davao leg held at the NCCC Mall B3 Center over the weekend.
"Suwerte kaayo ni si Yang-Yang (Valle). Duol kaayo ug suwerte ning bata na ni. Buwenas kaayo siya maski tuod naay siya'y mga mintis, nakabawi lang gihapon. Nalipay ko para sa iyaha (He's very fortunate. He's very lucky to have pulled it through despite his errors. I'm happy for him)," said the 42-year-old Didal, who watched Valle beat Agusan del Sur's Danny Otocan, 7-6, Sunday.
Didal settled for the runner-up honors after losing to Francisco "Django" Bustamante in the finals last year.
Didal said he's been preparing for another shot at the title next month.
"Nagapakundisyon nako, relax-relax panagsa, praktis pud. Mudula gyud ko sa finals. Ungta maswertehan pud ko (I've been conditioning myself, do some relaxation and practice. I'll play in the finals. I hope I'll get lucky)," Didal said.
Kiamco, lost to Otocan in the first round, 5-7, then was eliminated by Darrel Cubillan, 5-7, in the losers bracket.
"Grabe ug pocketing ni si Danny. First time pa nako siya nakalaban. Nag-tie pa man gani mi 5-all pero naunhan gyud ko niya (Danny was very good at pocketing. It was my first time to play him. We were tied 5-all but he pulled it off first)," Kiamco said while demonstrating on a pool table how he lost the match.
Kiamco said he would try to qualify in the Bacolod City leg on Saturday and Sunday at the Celebrity Billiards and Bar.
Kiamco, blessed with three daughters, stayed with Valle's family who resides at Ruby Subdivision in Skyline while in the city. (MLSA)
