Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Businessman denies posing as NBI agent By Rhodamae M. Hernandez
A BUSINESSMAN denied introducing himself as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) although he admitted dropping the name of the NBI when he had a quarrel with the security guard of Davao Doctors Hospital early this month.
Johnson Lu, 39, of Solariega village in Talomo, Davao City, went to NBI office Tuesday to clear his name after he was accused of using the agency's name to allegedly threaten the hospital's security guard identified as Allan Recaña, 35, of Quezon Boulevard, Davao City, during an altercation at around 9 p.m. on August 8, 2007.
Police records showed the security guard told police that Lu threatened him when he did not allow the businessman to enter the hospital premises at 9 p.m.
"Sinabihan ko siya na balikan ko siya but I did not claim na taga NBI ako. Ang sinabi ko, may kakilala ako sa NBI," Lu told Sunstar Davao. (I told him I will come back but I did not say I was with the NBI. I told him I know someone at the NBI.)
Lu said he got irked when the guard did not allow him to enter the hospital premises after visiting hours.
"Hindi ko naman alam na pag 9:00 p.m. na, kelangan na ng (I was not aware that when it reaches 9:00 p.m., there’s a need for) watchers ID. I insisted on entering kasi dala ko ang gamot ng nanay ko (I was bringing my mother’s medicine)," Lu said.
He claimed he was surprised when he heard his name in a radio report as having claimed to be an NBI agent.
"Nagtaka na ako nung narinig ko ang pangalan ko kaya pumunta ako dito (when I heard my name, I cam over) to clear my name and ang pangalan ng NBI. Kahit hindi ko man sinabi, humihingi pa rin ako ng dispensa (even if I did not bring the name of the NBI, I still apologize)," Lu said.
