Ex-flight attendant named city tourism officer
By Grace L. Plata

A FORMER international flight attendant has been appointed by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte as the new city tourism officer, a year after the resignation of Id Acaylar.

Gerardin Marie C. Angeles, who paid a courtesy call on the Davao City Council during Tuesday's session, was appointed to the post on August 9, after the opening of this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw.

It was in last year's Kadayawan when Acaylar tendered his resignation prompted by a difference in view with city officials on how to run the "Hiyas ng Kadayawan" pageant.

Acaylar wanted to include male contestants in the search.

"I assure you that I will help Davao City in becoming the center of the tourism industry in Mindanao," Angeles said.

Born and raised in Davao City, Angeles considers herself a true Dabawenya. She once worked for Philippine Airlines and became one of the pioneering staff of the Marco Polo Hotel Davao.

She returned to Davao City in 2006 after a stint at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City.
