Grecil's exhumation necessary: Bayan Muna
By Carlo P. Mallo

BAYAN Muna party-list Representative Joel Virador said the exhumation of the body of nine-year-old Grecil Buya is necessary to ensure that justice is achieved.

Buya was killed after getting caught in crossfire between the New People's Army and government troops.

Brigadier General Carlos Holganza of the Army's 1001st Infantry Brigade earlier cried foul over the proposed exhumation of the body.

"She is already resting in peace," Holganza said.

Virador insists that a thorough examination of the girl's body can help in their quest to uncover the true circumstances behind her death.

Virador also said that justice could not be had for as long as the military refuses to admit killing Grecil.

"We will continue to battle for the truth," Virador said.

The military, according to Virador, has been doing a cover-up on the case and the Commission on Human Rights has not been able to uncover the truth.

The military's investigation said Grecil and her family had links with the insurgents.

The military believes that the insurgents abandoned Grecil when they were caught off guard by a military attack. The military claimed Grecil was a child-rebel but later took back the allegation. The military also said her family was a rebel-supporter.

Militant groups, meanwhile, insist Grecil was but a child caught in the crossfire.
