By Rhodamae M. Hernandez

A DUPLEX and two vehicles amounting to more or less 2.5 million were razed at Sarmiento village in Panacan, Davao City, on Sunday morning.

One unit was being rented by one Nancy Gutera while the other was rented by one Melchor Pichon.

Investigation also revealed that the fire that razed the whole house started at around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

The occupants were not able to save any of their belongings.

Initial investigation showed the fire started from the grounded battery of a passenger jeepney owned by Gutera.

Aside from the passenger jeepney, a car also owned by Gutera, was also burned.

"Totally razed gyud ang balay pati ang duha ka mga sakyanan. Ang estimated damage is 2.5 million, 1.9 million ani ang kay Gutera apil na ang duha ka sakyanan (The house was razed to the ground, including the two vehicles. Estimated damage is P2.5-million of which P1.9-million was that incurred by Gutera, which already includes the cost of the vehicles)," said the source from the DCFO.

The fire was tamped out by the operatives of Lanang and Buhangin Fire stations, Central 911 and volunteers at around 3:20 a.m.
