Duterte to follow-up Bankerohan bridge project
By Ben O. Tesiorna

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will go to Metro Manila this week to follow-up the status of the construction of the Bankerohan bridge project that has not started since it collapsed almost four months ago.

In his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, Duterte expressed his disappointment anew on the delay of the bridge construction.

Duterte's travel to Metro Manila is aimed at giving pressure to the officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to hurry up the construction.

But even though the mayor has not yet traveled to Manila, his plans seem to be working as Davao City Representative (1st district) Prospero Nograles said the actual construction of the new bridge is expected to start by first or second week of September.

The project was recently awarded to The Ciriaco Corporation.

DPWH-Southern Mindanao Director Hadji Pundidato Mitmug said they are doing their best to fast track the project. He said they expect the bridge to be finished by May 2008.
