Monday, September 03, 2007 A taste of Polo Bistro By Jojie Alcantara Witerary
WHEN Marco Polo Davao invited us to "revitalize" ourselves in the new Polo Bistro at The Deck, the word just rings so true.
Dining atop the hotel's fourth floor in an open area called The Deck was a fresh of breath air. Okay, it was raining that evening, but the Polo Bistro's air-conditioned glass walls made up for the wet weather, which didn't stop a lone guest from enjoying his swim at the poolside.
Marco's GM Stanley Lau cheerfully told us how it took five months for the new restaurant to be constructed, each part of the structure coming from different countries from the tiles, windows, to the glass and furniture.
Next to Polo Bistro is the Sarangani room, a function room for small, private events. Recently, they just had a wedding in The Deck, which was formerly the Poolside.
The menu was simply enticing. I had Tiger King Prawns while sneaking bits from Rhonson's Baby Back Pork Ribs and sharing with Jinggoy's Atlantic Salmon Steak.
There are mouthwatering salads like the Three-Bean Salad with Seared Cajun Spice Shrimp, Calamares and Pomelo, or Baked Chicken Supreme with Grapes, Feta Cheese and Toasted Almonds in Balsamic Dressing.
Pasta and Pizza delights include Ostrich and Spinach Lasagna, Pizza Napoli, Party-Sized Hero Sandwich with Salami, Mortadella, Coppa Ham and Edam Cheese. There are delicious fisherman's catch like the Bay of Fundy Scallops , or barbeque skewers, Australian Lamb Cutlets, Baby Back Pork Ribs, and US Angus prime beef cut tenderloin steak.
For yummy desserts, you can't simply resist names like Jackfruit and Pandan Parfait, Mango and Coconut Cream Brulee, and Pomelo, Carrot and Almond Cheesecake. For the weight conscious, there are healthy drinks like Joint Juice, Banana Calmer, Snoozing Rabbit, Holiday , Apple Spritzer, and Popeye's Sundowner.
For me though, nothing beats lying down in one of the deck's poolside lounge chairs and stare at the poolside at night, mesmerized by its changes of colors. Try it, it's quite calming.
