"I don't want to brag, but if we base it in last year's Dacs Meet, we have a very strong chance in topping events like basketball, men's and women's volleyball and women's chess, among others, in the college category," HCDC sports coordinator Abraham Verdeprado said.

However, Verdeprado said two of their male woodpushers are sick jeopardizing their chances in the men's chess event.

In the GS Cup, Verdeprado said their chances depend if the University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats are joining or not.

"The Wildcats remain the heavy favorite, but if they won't compete then our team will have a great opportunity to vie for the title (smiles)," Verdeprado said.

He said the DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP), Emar Learning Center, and Ateneo de Davao University (AddU) Blue Knights are also strong teams to watch.

"Our teams are ready for the battle in both Dacs Meet and GS Cup. We're just hoping and praying we put up very strong finishes," Verdeprado said.

The HCDC basketball team, meanwhile, opened its campaign in the 6th Msgr. Antonio Mabutas Cup Basketball Tournament at the HCDC Gym Friday.

The tournament will wrap up Saturday with a championship match set at 6 p.m.
