Montemayor on ouster report: It's all but plain rumor
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

LEON G. "Binggoy" Montemayor described as plain rumors the report saying he is on the way out as commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

"It's all but rumor," Montemayor told Sun.Star Davao over the phone Friday in dismissing the report published in a national paper.

"It's mere speculation. All of us in the PSC board tendered our courtesy resignations but there is no official information or document removing me from my post," Montemayor added.

He said it was the same rumor that was being floated in the air in 2002 and in 2005.

"It's been like that the past years. I don't know if those circulating the rumor are interested in my post. As far as I'm concerned, it remains a rumor unless I receive an official document retrieving me of my post," Montemayor said.

"I have lots of things to think about now what with all the preparations of the Task Force SEA Games where I'm a part of," the PSC commissioner added.

Montemayor, who is from Davao, said preparations are right on schedule for the country's preparation for the coming biennial meet set in Thailand on December 6 to 16.

"The list of athletes will be finalized this month. Our athletes who trained recently in China have also arrived including our Davao divers," Montemayor said.

The athletes, Montemayor added, have also started receiving the bananas committed by the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA) in a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the PSC.

The bananas, according to him, are being delivered Mondays and Wednesdays until December to help boost the athletes' campaign in the SEA Games.
