Sunday, September 09, 2007 HCDC Crusaders shock JMC Kings
HOST Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders shocked defending champion Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings, 73-58, at the start of the 6th Msgr. Antonio Mabutas Cup Basketball Tournament at the HCDC Gym Friday.
The Crusaders arranged a titular clash against the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Blue Knights who survived a 91-87 win over DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) Mariners in the first game.
The Kings and Mariners were still playing for third place in the annual cagefest sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP-SBP).
The Crusaders-Blue Knights championship match was set at 6 p.m. Saturday in the tournament sponsored by Smart, Holiday Spa & Gym, SuperFerry, Emcor and Coca-Cola.
Trophies await the winners of the knockout system format meet organized in memory of Msgr. Antonio Mabutas who, according to HCDC sports director Abraham Verdeprado, was supportive of the school's sports programs. (MLSA)
