Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Mayono, Aberilla bag two badminton titles
KATHERINE Kim Mayono and Irish Mae Aberilla captured two titles for Talomo National High School at the close of the Yonex-Sunrise Regional Badminton Championships in General Santos City over the weekend.
Mayono emerged champion in the girls' 15-under singles then she paired with Aberilla to rule the doubles event of the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA)-sanctioned tournament supervised by Errol Chan.
Coach Jethra Villanueva said her wards played the single round robin format with the player or team that has no loss wins.
She said the tournament also attracted shuttlers from Manila, Laguna, Marawi, Cotabato, Tacurong, Koronadal and Guingoog.
"The tournament also featured the 12-under singles, doubles and mixed, 15-under mixed and levels B, C, D, E and F. But I just brought two players from Talomo," Villanueva said.
