Army: 'Insider' helped Reds in Montevista raid
By Ben O. Tesiorna

AN "INSIDER" helped the New People's Army in successfully raiding a plywood manufacturing plant in Montevista, Compostela Valley Sunday evening.

Brigadier General Carlos Holganza, chief of the Army's 1001st Brigade, made the revelation in a telephone interview Tuesday morning.

Is former President Joseph Estrada guilty or not guilty of plunder charges? Post your comments here.

Holganza said the rebels were able to penetrate the well fortified Li Chiang Multi-purpose and Development Cooperative plant in Purok Uno, barangay Dauman in Montevista because an "insider" helped them.

It was learned that militiamen, all Cafgu members, temporarily detailed to guard the plant on Sunday initially put up a fight against the raiding rebels.

The raiders were first unable to penetrate the plant due to its high gate and fences but an insider opened up the gates so the rebels could enter.

As a result, one Cafgu member identified as Federico Bucadon was killed in the said incident.

The rebels were also able to cart away the high-powered firearms like M16, M14, Garand and Carbine rifles inside the plant.

The rebels were onboard a van and two motorcycles when they launched the raid.

Holganza did not reveal the identity of the "insider" who helped the rebels but said that they are still conducting investigation and hot pursuit operations against the raiding group.
