Four Davao cue masters in SMB-RP Open 9-Ball

LEE Vann Corteza, Gandy Valle, Leonardo Didal and Jech Jech Limen will open their campaign for Davao City on Friday in the 2007 SMB Philippine 9-Ball Open Finals at the Decagon area, Silvercity Automall, Julia Vargas Ave., Ortigas Center.

The Guinness 9-Ball Tour grand finals runner-up Corteza, who hails from Mintal, and Didal of Panacan joined the seeded players led by defending champion Francisco Bustamante, Mike Takayama, Ronnie Alcano, Carlo Biado, Marlon Manalo, Efren Reyes, Alex Pagulayan, Jose Parica, Dennis Orcollo, and Antonio Gabica.

Corteza was an invited player while Didal got an automatic slot after finishing second to Bustamante in last year's finals.

Bangkok Asian Games gold medallist Valle, whose family now resides in Skyline, and Limen of Matina booked finals berths in the Davao leg held at the NCCC Mall B3 Center on August 11 and 12.

Completing the 32-man field are Robinson's Galleria qualifiers Ricky Zerna, Russian Petiza, Panfilo Damuag, and Jundel Mazon; Davao leg qualifiers Glendford Autor and Danny Otacan; Bacolod qualifiers Jharome Peña, Roberto Gomez, Rene Cruz and Eduardo Villanueva; Baguio qualifiers Joven Bustamante, Johann Chua, Jay Jay Millares and Jeffrey De Luna; and Quezon City qualifiers Michael Feliciano, Warren Kiamco, Eduardo Saracho and Elmer Kalaquian.

The champion will go home P.5 million richer while the runner-up will receive P250,000. The two semi-finalists will bag P100,000 each while the fifth and sixth placers will get P40,000 each and P30,000 each will go to the seventh and eighth placers.

The ninth to 12th placers will take home P20,000 each, the 13th to 16th placers P15,000 each, 17th to 24th with P10,000 each, and 25th to 32nd with P5,000 each for total cash prize of P1,350.00. (MLSA)
