Thursday, September 13, 2007 2 siblings in robbery held kids hostage By Rhodamae M. Hernandez
A MAN and his sister held hostage the woman's three children and two of the children's cousins inside their house in St. Michael Village in Ma-a from Wednesday dawn to 8 a.m.
The incident appears to be an all-tangled up scheme to injure another person to teach him a lesson but became a robbery incident instead.
Arrested in the hostage incident were Ricky Posadas, alias Cocoy, and his sister Ruth Posadas-Hectin.
Ricky claims to be a civil informer of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), a claim that has not been verified yet.
The two held hostage the children to force authorities not to arrest them for the robbery in Rolling Hills in Bacaca last Tuesday.
The police were tipped about their alleged involvement in the robbery that occurred at around 2 p.m. of that day after the arrest of the alleged mastermind.
The robbery was done in a breeze since the group's contact was the sibling of the Bacaca homeowner.
The group allegedly robbed the house of one Valeriana Recaña-Rabanillo, a Japanese descendant who is in possession of a sizeable amount of Japanese money.
During investigation, it was learned that the one who facilitated the robbers' entry was Bacilia Recaña, the 37-year-old sister of Valeriana. Bacilia has been arrested earlier on and is now detained at the San Pedro Police Precinct.
Police investigation said Bacilia transferred the big dog tied outside so that the robbers can enter while the people were sleeping inside.
Rabanillo said she was not home at the time and that the robbers tied up her helpers, Jessie Recaña and Susan Lubos.
Rabanillo claimed the robbers stole around "80 ka lapad", equivalent to 300,000 pesos, and several jewelry pieces from her safe.
It was Bacilia who squealed after her arrest and pointed to one Laura Mapayo as the one who planned the operation and who promised to find the persons to execute the plan -- to harm Bonifacio Rabanillo, Valeriana's husband -- upon the instigation of Bacilia.
It appears that Bacilia wanted to put out a contract on Bonifacio Rabanillo, Valeriana's husband. But Bacilia denied that robbery was part of the plan.
"Ang akoa ra ato nga ipakulata ra man nako si Boning bana ni Valeriana kay naglagot ko sa iya. Ni-contact ko kang Laura kay naa daw siya'y kaila para mohimo. Pirmerong plano, ipapatay pero niingon ko nga di lang nato patyon ato lang bun-ogon patagmon. Tulis na man hinuon ilang tuyo, wala na ko'y labot ana (What I wanted them to do was just to maul Valeriana's husband Boning because of a grudge. I contacted Laura because she said she has the people who can do the job. The initial plan was to kill Bonifacio, but I said that it's better if he will just be mauled to teach him a lesson. But instead of doing that, they staged a robbery. I'm not part of that)," Bacilia, who is two months pregnant, said.
Bacilia refused to reveal why she wanted Bonifacio harmed.
After Bacilia's confession, members of the San Pedro and Talomo Police and the Anti-Hoodlum Unit set up an operation to arrest Mayapo from her house in Puan.
It was learned through the course of the investigation that Mapayo had at one time been arrested and detained by the CIDG for illegal recruitment.
It was Mapayo who contacted Posadas-Hectin and her half-brother Posadas.
Rabanillo said she knew Mapayo and was thus surprised that she could come up with a plan to harm her.
The police set out to arrest Posadas-Hectin and Posadas Wednesday dawn during which the two locked themselves up in their house in St. Michael and threatened to harm the children with them inside.
Even Julieta, Posadas-Hectin's mother, who came over to bring food for the children was not allowed to enter the house.
After hours of negotiation, Posadas came out, raising his hand. This was when the authorities finally entered the house.
