Red Cross lauds City for help with blood donation
By Grace L. Plata

THE City Government of Davao was praised by the Philippine National Red Cross-Davao Chapter (PNRC-Davao) for being one of its biggest donors, during the inauguration and blessing of the Davao City Red Cross Millennium Building last September 9.

The City has donated P3.4 million pesos for the construction of the Millennium Building and has been giving P150,000 yearly for operations of the local Red Cross.

Councilor Pilar Braga, who received the plaque in behalf of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, said in her privilege speech Tuesday that aside from the plaque, Davao City was praised by Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the PNRC board of governors, for its proposed measure aimed at setting up a blood donation system.

"I was especially elated when Senator Gordon praised our proposed ordinance. The Blood Donation Program Ordinance for Davao City, which seeks to institutionalize blood donation so that safe blood is accessible to any resident of the barangay when he or she needs blood. This, without having to go through a stressful and tedious process of securing blood," Braga said.

"The good senator promised to support the ordinance and hopes to make it a model ordinance for other cities and municipalities all over the country," she added.

Aside from Gordon, present during the occasion were officials of the national and local Red Cross coming from all over Mindanao.
