Tacay wins 2 gold medals in karatedo

REXOR Tacay of Davao City won the 16 years old division's kata and kumite gold medals in the recently concluded Mayor RRD Post-Kadayawan Karatedo Tournament Monday at the NCCC Mall.

Tacay bested Mark Philip Naguita of Cagayan de Oro in the kata category. He also won over Michael Manuel of Misamis Oriental in kumite.

Jordan Cozo of Misamis Oriental ruled the 14 years old and under kumite over teammate Christian John Abales while Shinji Rex Tacay settled for the bronze medal.

Jessabel Zamarro of Misamis took the 16 under kumite gold medal while Jennie Lou Naguita of Cagayan de Oro wound up for the silver and Gianluick Ferrer of Davao City bagged a bronze medal. Ana Francisca Acain of Cebu City brought home the 14 under kumite gold medal.

Acain's teammate Samantha Lagcao clinched the 16 under kata gold medal over Marynlie Aguilar of Misamis Oriental.

Other gold medallists in the two-day tournament backed by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go were Steve Brian Parba of Cagayan de Oro (kata) and Jerrad Tenebro of Isulan (kumite) in the 12 under division, Ridlo Sumanang of Davao City and Jyssa Maye Lozo of Misamis Oriental in the 8 years old and under kumite, Cherrymar Tutica of Misamis Oriental in the 10 years old and under kumite, Miyuki Tacay of Davao City (kata) and Mae Asinero of Misamis Oriental (kumite) in the 12 under division.

In the senior's category, Jose Mae Manguera of Cebu won the women's individual kata while Joey Cotamura of Misamis Oriental won the kumite title in the 48-kilogram and under division.

Other gold medal winners were Aileen Juntilla of Misamis Oriental (women's open weight kumite), Rex Tyrone Tacay of Davao City (men's individual kata), Rodney Mendoza of Davao City (men's 55-kilogram below individual kumite), Sharif Omar Tukan of Davao City (men's 65-kilogram below individual kumite), Celso Braselino of Tacurong (men's 70-kilogram and below individual kumite) and Ronald Ruto of Davao City (men's open weight kumite).

The Philippine Shotokan Karatedo Association International-Davao City under tournament director Rick Tacay grabbed the men's synchronized kumite gold over Kauswagan Team of Cagayan de Oro City while the Cebu Team settled for the bronze medal.
